“What will you do with people like Breivik http://news.sky.com/home/world-news/article/16209118   in a socialist society?” is a question socialists will be asked. Most of us agree it is a silly question but some people have used such an example to arguethat socialism is unworkable.

From my point of view socialism will not produce such people but some questioners don’t accept this, as they don’t fully understand our case.

We present a convincing case for the eradication of war, starvation, poverty, wage slavery etc. but we are told it won’t work because (even tho’ socialism will solve many problems) we will never prevent some rapes, murders etc..

Using this logic, then it is pointless trying to solve any social problem!

My argument has always been “Well let’s get rid of war, starvation poverty, homelessness, etc then we can deal with people like Breivik.

I was wondering how other comrades deal with such a question

In a similar humane civilised way Norway deals with people like Breivik (ever see Michael Moore’s visit to a prison in Sicko?). I notice Breivik chooses Barbarism over his perception of “Marxism”, since he asks that he either be acquitted or sentenced to death, a point which the thoroughly disgraced left of the WRP seem to agree with.
