ParticipantWith no historical awareness or knowledge even of basic chronology, people cannot begin to understand how their present environment came about. An historical free-for-all leaves all at sea, and with no inner resources of book-learning, reason and discernment, there can be no socio-historical analysis and hence no political awareness.

ParticipantSomeone should tell that guy that fictional recreations of historical events or persons aren’t actual history. But then I guess he’d have to miss out on the YouTube revenue.

ParticipantDJP – What exactly do you mean by that? History is created by historians and many of their narratives can be considered wholly or partly fictitious. One of the joys of history is the continual evolution (revision) of narratives about the past which are mainly due to the ideology/class of the historians.

ParticipantThe video is someone complaining about when fictional works (Netflix series etc) based on historical events do not follow the currently accepted historical narrative. But why should they? They are works of fiction, not reflections on the current state of historical research.

ParticipantExcept that film blockbusters and sensational TV fictions are the majority’s only historical references, and those questioning the fictions in some cases are labelled “racist” or else.
The Youtuber here makes a good point, that historically real African protagonists are ignored in favour of making a Greek queen black: and in fact continuing thereby to keep the field of historical reference Eurocentric.
A recently advertised fiction which has every second English 18th century aristocrat played by a black actor/actress would be fun as satire, but that is not the intent. It too is a slap in the face of the real Africans in their millions who were enslaved and transported for over three centuries.
The PCers wouldn’t dare, themselves, to give us a black Winston Churchill, although THAT I would enjoy!

KeymasterAnother moral panic, then?

ParticipantNo. Imagine the patriotic idiots demonstrating if the PCers were really bold and had Churchill played by a black actor. Or, better still, make Churchill not only black, but a woman too. Winnie.

ParticipantRemember the hullabaloo over the white golliwogs in “Loot”?
