ParticipantApril 2005 Item 9.2(ii)
Quote:Lawrence & Scholey: "Regarding the video produced by some members, the EC is bound to point out that by not mentioning the Party's name or the word 'socialism', it raises the question of published policy that is beyond the remit of the EC. Therefore, the EC cannot officially endorse it. However, there is no problem in it being used as a link with the Party's website, and the EC hopes that the comrades concerned will continue their efforts to produce party videos which should have an important place in our general campaigning." Agreed: 7 for, 0 against, 1 abstention.August 24, 2016 at 9:38 pm in reply to: SPGBers- Socialists – Non-Socialists and Anti- Socialists #114307jondwhite

ParticipantI think I was prompted by this recently uploaded report from May 1952 on the conference proceedings
Quote:The main item of discussion on the Saturday session centred around our methods of propaganda. Heated arguments were advanced in favour or in opposition to our various avenues for expounding our case. All were agreed that it would be inadvisable to discard any one of those avenues but that we might with advantage concentrate on certain ones without neglecting any. The disadvantages attendant upon outdoor meetings in this age of noisy traffic, cinemas, radio, television, etc., were considered, but our inability to make use of the modem mass propaganda machinery, due to lack of finances and Government control, make it necessary for us to continue with older methods despite the fact that they may be less productive of results than of yore. The training and encouragement of new speakers, the methods and manner of our approach to audiences, the social problems that we investigate and the flaws in our propaganda organisation were all debated, and delegates indulged in a lot of self-searching to find causes for dissatisfaction and remedies for the future.jondwhite
ParticipantWhat's the moment of truth? If Corbyn wins the Labour leadership? Has he won the true heart of the Labour party?

ParticipantI've often thought the emphasis on elite sport doesn't translate to widespread participation or might even discourage it. Someone on Radio 4 one morning last week tried to make this point to an elite athlete but to no avail.

ParticipantMoney's just another commodity, if negative interest rates were in effect I would seek a return on my investment from another commodity preferably one with liquidity rather than property in land and houses.

ParticipantFair enough, but this is a discussion about their internal democracy and how they make policy.

ParticipantDemocratic Audit released their 2016 audit including the reportHow democratic are the UK’s political parties and party system?http://www.democraticaudit.com/?p=19461stating
Quote:In theory Liberal Democrats have the most internally democratic party, with the federal party and party conference enjoying a pre-eminent role in policy formation. Yet in the coalition period the exigencies of the party being in government seemed to easily negate this nominal influence (as has long been argued to be the case in the top two parties). The Conservative Party meanwhile enjoys relatively little influence over party policy with decisions being made largely in Cabinet or Shadow Cabinet, and to a lesser degree by the national party machine. At local level, members have more influence but they rarely challenge sitting MPs. UKIP’s members are not empowered by their party’s constitution, which declares that motions at conference will only be considered as ‘advisory’, rather than binding. The Green Party probably allows its membership the greatest degree of influence over internal policy.I've invited Democratic Audit to our ADM this October. Also
Quote:The Greens and SNP are the parties for whom membership fees count most as a source of incomeNot something we in the SPGB could claim.

ParticipantI don't think it's appropriate term even without the religious connotations.

ParticipantThanks for this. Even Jeremy Corbyn has called the entryists 'sectarian extremists' and refused to endorse Leon Trotsky even in a choice between Blair and Trotsky. Stalin practised realpolitik which may not be the same as politics. Both Peter and Christoper were members of that ruthlessly ineffective sect then called the IS, now called the SWP in Britain.

ParticipantCalling for 'contrition' is out of order.

ParticipantAs I understand it this is now a real currency and unlike Bitcoin there is no limit to number of coins so it is not deflationary.
