It wouldn't restrict joining the movement, only joining the party. The party is not the movement. Workers who want to support the party are told not to if they do not understand, yet workers continue to support the party.A good PR approach is a materialist idea, based on material reality of the effect of good PR. Idealists would be indifferent or not be interested in a good PR approach. They would call it 'the passing show'.
I don't think the exclusion of the religious (or deists) excludes enough idealists. If anything, the question should be broadened.
Another aspect worth considering is separation of the party website from the publication website to enable better specialisation of both.
The major parties use canvassing software, such as EARS (http://www.earsonline.co.uk/ears01.php) which is used by the Lib Dems. Something for the SPGB Election Committee?
Former mining communities may have voted for the SLP if they were familiar with Scargill's trade union activity, not so much his politics though.
