    WORLD SOCIALIST PARTY (NEW ZEALAND) – General Administrative Committee

    Meeting held via telephone at 51 Weymouth Road, Manurewa and 15 Tanera Crescent, Wellington

     

    DATE:                                    Sunday 1st September 2013.

    CHAIRPERSON:                 M Gribble.  Moved M Grayson, 2nd C Matene.

    OPEN:                                   2:30pm.

    PRESENT:                             (Committee)      A Coombs, M Grayson, M Gribble, T Lovatt, C Matene.

                                                    (Members)         G Coffey, V Lovatt, C Malins, J Ryder.

    APOLOGIES:                       None.

     

    PREVIOUS MINUTES/ERRORS & OMISSIONS:                     

                    Minutes read.  Correction to General Business item 1:  “Spirit of 45” is a must see film depicting Britain after WWII.  Correction to General Business item 2:  Motion was resolved.  Further discussion required to implement the motion.  M Grayson moved the minutes be accepted after corrections made, 2nd T Lovatt.

     

    DISCUSSION ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES:

    1.            Waiting for a reply from the Internet Committee regarding WSPNZ website.

    2.            Advert on Face TV is still to be decided.

     

    CORRESPONDENCE:       

    1.            Socialist Party of Canada – Newsletter received via email. 

    M Grayson moved the correspondence be accepted, 2nd C Matene.

     

    LITERATURE SECRETARY’S REPORT:

    1.            Need email address for Bruce Milne.  Sent invoice for two years subscription.  No reply yet.

    2.            Email from Auckland University librarian.  While binding issues of 2012 Socialist Standards it was noted that the January 2012 issue was missing some pages.  This has been replaced with a good copy.

    3.            Socialist Standards for September have not arrived yet and will be posted to subscribers when they arrive.

    4.            Subscriptions for G Coffey and C Matene are overdue.

     

    TREASURER’S REPORT

    M Gribble presented the treasurer’s report.  Property is valuated every three years.  M Gribble moved the treasurer’s report be accepted and any outstanding account to be paid, 2nd C Matene. 

     

    GENERAL BUSINESS:

    1.            Ideas for advertising include:

                    a.            Do you know what Socialism is?  A system of society where there is no money and no property.

                    b.            For freedom and security – Socialism.

                    c.             For freedom and a humane society – Socialism.

                    d.            Genuine Socialism is the only Socialism.

                    e.            What is Socialism?  Look at our website to find out.

                    f.             Are you getting a good deal under Capitalism?

                    g.            Read the Socialist Standard.

                    h.            Free and frequent everything.

                    i.              Want a free meal? Want a free education? Want a free medical service? Contact the Socialist Party.

                    j.             A world without money.

    2.            Form a sub-committee of 3 members to collate and act upon information received, email each other and agree unanimously to find a resolution for advertising ideas.

    3.            T Lovatt moves a motion that advertising on Face TV run for 7 weeks.  One member to determine the wording for advert for the first 7 weeks to be placed on different days, the next member to determine the wording for the next 7 weeks etc, as long as finances allow, 2nd C Matene.  M Gribble moved an addendum to the motion to include contact details of PO Box and website, 2nd T Lovatt.  Four votes in favour of motion and addendum, 1 vote abstain.  Motion accepted.
