When finished with Lillian Gish and Punch and Judy, when are “woke” going to call for the Bible to be erased?
Didn’t they used to be called “the Loony Left”? But this lot seem really loony in implying that only a hunchback should be allowed to play Richard III. And they are more dangerous as they are open opponents of free speech and work to get people whose views they dislike sacked.

While i’m all for getting rid of statues of slave traders, I heard a statue of Cervantes was attacked in the U.S., because they hadn’t heard of him, and it was of someone in elizabethan clothing.
Look out for the article on “Cancel Culture” in next month’s Socialist Standard. If you want to order extra copies to sell outside your local students Union contact Head Office. Just be careful they don’t report you to your local Job Centre to try to get your benefits cancelled.
Talking of cancel culture, can we cancel this thread?
If I’d wanted to watch an episode of ‘Grumpy Old Men’ with my morning tea, I would have ordered the box set of DVDs from Amazon.

I live in the States and I had to look up the Cervantes statue story. It was not a big news story over here. So, some ignorant numpties defaced a statue not knowing who he was . . . or maybe they did, and they defaced it out of frustration ‘cos – like me – they couldn’t finish Don Quixote.
It’s not on a par with these muppets from 2000 but it is facepalm funnier, I guess:

PS – for the hard of hearing – I’m not in favour of ‘cancel culture’ but neither am I in favour of right-wing culture war talking points either. In many cases I think there are wankers on both sides who are birds of a feather.

Had to laugh (or weep) at the Paedophile/trician article. In fact it reminded me of a reply I sent to Young Master Smeet a few years ago where I mixed up “Abstruse” with “Obtuse”. DOH!
