If the Venezuelan top brass are behind it, then it will be a fait accompli and it will not become a national war. A guerilla war, internally, perhaps.
I believe there is some truth to the speculation that he was betrayed by internal elements of the military, that Trump was given a way out, and that this was followed by a government of national unity bringing together elements of the old oligarchy or bourgeoisie with the new one. If that is the case, then perhaps nothing more will happen. As for the lefts who speak of the end of the United States, that is something I have been hearing since my youth, and so far the country continues to do whatever it wants in this region.
I don’t think it makes sense to talk about a “war on Russia or China” as if they were isolated villains. What we are seeing is not a deviation, but the normal functioning of capitalism on a global scale. States compete with each other because they represent different economic interests, and when that competition intensifies, it takes on military, economic, or technological forms.
Russia, China, the United States, and Europe are not defending humanity or superior moral models; they are defending their own national economies. None of them acts outside the logic of capital, and therefore no war between them can benefit the working class, wherever they live.
If there are more conflicts in the future—direct or indirect—it won’t be because of cultural evil or ideologies, but because a system based on accumulation, markets, and nation-states needs to expand and runs into its own limits. As long as this system exists, wars are not an exception: they are a consequence.
From this perspective, taking sides with one bloc or another is accepting the narrative of power. The only coherent position is to reject nationalism, understand that workers do not have opposing interests with each other, and recognize that war will only disappear when the system that produces it disappears.Anti-imperialism is not anti-capitalism. Any ruling class can ally itself with any other ruling class. Anti-Yankeeism is not anti-capitalism.
The so-called socialism of the XXI Century is just a Latin American nationalist trend, like Castroism, some Argentinian leftwingers call it Caribbean Peronism.
Most of those radical nationalist trend at the end have allied with the USA and the European ruling class. The Partido Revolucionario Moderno is a split of the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano, which was a radical leftwinger organization ( part of the 1965 revolt ), and it supported the invasion of Venezuela, and they confiscated Maduro’s presidential aeroplanes.
Linea Roja ( ex 1J4 ), which was a radical Maoist group and became the Partido De los Trabajadores, fused with members of the oligarchy to form a political party known as Fuerza del Pueblo, which is now a social democratic organisation, and they survived the last election, obtaining a second place
The sad situation is that many young people, union leaders, died for those organizations and now they are collaborating with the capitalist class
In Brazil, Lula had to make an accord with the right-wingers to obtain a majority of votes in the last election, and the populist Brazilian right wings are tied to the USA and to the reactionary Brazilian capitalist class
Curiously, the Puerto Rican who used to be called pro-yankees or pitiyankis formed a leftwings coalittions, and they obtained a second place in the last election
