ParticipantBREAKING: Newly released video shows U.S. forces seizing a the oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela.
Trump claims the US will keep the oil.
Looks like this is all about the oil after all.
The ode adage springs to mind. You can fool some of the people some of the time but not all the people all of the time.

ParticipantThe reality is they fool most of the people most of the time.

ParticipantI’d love to be optimistic, but we all know how this magical cycle goes: Maduro leaves the country with his loved ones, his suitcases… and, of course, all the money he managed to grab on the way out. He ends up settling comfortably in Cuba, Russia, or China — the usual retirement spots for leaders who never have to worry about real-life problems. Meanwhile, the working people stay stuck in the middle, as always. Then they install a ‘pro-American’ government that promises transparency while continuing to steal — just more politely. And right on cue, another genius appears preaching Socialism of the 22nd Century, as if anyone asked for a sequel.

ParticipantThe leftists think that by removing Trump, all problems are going to be resolved, but they never mention that the real problem is capitalism; any president will do the same job .
The Houthis were doing the same thing in the Middle East, and during the government of Obama administration, drones were used to kill people and leaders . The USA has intervened more than 142 times in Latin America, and they are using the policy of isolation and expansion at the same time, and it is not new either
Petroleum is not the only problem; the USA is exporting oil at present, besides petroleum, Venezuela own minerals at the Orinoco basin, and other economic powers like China and Russia are also extracting minerals from that region.
The US ruling class does not want other competitors in Latin America, and China is becoming a threat in that region, challenging its own spheres of influence.
The problem is that American workers believe everything that their leaders and the government tell them
The war against drugs is only a pretext; that war has existed for many years, and El Sol Cartel does not exist, and Tren of Aragua does not exist any more, they are looking for another weapon of mass destruction like in Iraq
Besides China buying commodities, they are also selling commodities, they are establishing commercial routes, making loans and selling weapons, as well as Russia is doing the same thing.
The problem with Venezuela started before the election of Hugo Chavez, who was first overthrown by the US, and then he was placed back again. The coup failed.
During the Obama administration, Zelaya was overthrown to avoid a commercial route from Venezuela to the Panama Canal; whatever Trump is doing now, it has been done before; he is following other administrations’ legacies. Obama used to be called George Bush number 2
Those are just provocation and threats, but the USA know that a war with Venezuela might bring serious consequences, it might become another Vietnam or another Iraq.
The Colombian president has received threats, and some Colombian presidents have been taken to court for drug trafficking and The US knew about their business, and that country also has petroleum, and it is well connected with China and Russia

The US puppets have lived comfortably in Florida, and they have enjoyed their money. Carlos Andres Perez left Venezuela with millions of dollars, and he owned newspapers and banks

ParticipantWith Russian missiles there now, I’m not sure the US will have its way this time.

ParticipantThis is different to the situation with Panama and Grenada, which had machetes and kitchen knives. The Venezuelan army is armed with modern weapons provided by the Russians, Koreans, Iranians and the Chinese, and it has a lot of jungles and mountains, and a big militia. There are several guerrilla groups which are willing to provide support to Venezuela, including the Colombian FARC. The Europeans are selling modern weapons to Colombia . Donald Trump is still living in 1945

ParticipantWhat you’re saying is completely different from what happened in Panama and Grenada. Back then, there were barely any weapons and the intervention was quick. In Venezuela, the story would be very different: the army has modern weapons from Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, there’s a huge militia, jungles and mountains that favor a long war, and guerrilla groups like factions of the FARC or the ELN could get involved. Plus, Europe continues selling weapons to Colombia. Thinking this could be resolved like in 1945, with a fast and clean military strike, is an illusion.
And when you look calmly at what each country is likely to do, it becomes even clearer that no intervention would make sense:
The United States isn’t going to invade Venezuela; that’s not part of their modern strategy. They prefer sanctions, diplomatic pressure, and negotiations when it suits them. Venezuela, on the other hand, isn’t going to give up power easily and will keep relying on Russia, China, and Iran to resist any attempt at isolation. In the end, all this shows that any use of force would be a tragedy for both peoples. That’s why hopefully what prevails won’t be war or nostalgia for old military models, but peace, negotiation, and each country’s ability to solve its problems without destroying its own people.
After so many decades of conflicts and mistakes, the only truly sensible—and human—thing is to avoid repeating another pointless tragedy in Latin America.

ParticipantThat is what I am saying, that this situation with Venezuela is different to Panama, Grenada, and the Dominican Republic. The guerrillas in Central America were not defeated; the USA had to negotiate with them, and then, some became political groups. They did not have modern weapons like Venezuela,

ParticipantThe US took a ship from China carrying weapons for Iran, according to their own reports. The US government is becoming the new Francis Drake, or the Buccaneers and Filibusters of the Caribbean. During the Pandemic, they also took ships carrying medical equipment. What they called the Houthis terrorists were doing the same things,

ParticipantThe USA government has declared a total oil blockade against venezuela and they also have also said that Venezuela has stolen resources and lands from the USA; therefore, all the oil and lands belong to the USA. Spain, France, and Portugal can also claim that South America and the Caribbean islands belong to them, and they were stolen from them. The thieves are claiming ownership. This is a world governed by outlaws, similar to the time of the wild west, the capitalist class is not hidding any more their own intentions

ParticipantAnd the destroyers and gunboats diplomacy came to the Caribbean, and the governments of Trinidad and Tobago are supporting the presence of destroyers in their territories and supporting the possible invasion of Venezuela
December 28, 2025 at 6:19 pm #262322Citizenoftheworld
ParticipantThis is nothing new; it has not been initiated by Donald Trump. This is the old gunboat diplomacy practised by the European powers and the USA, including Roosevelt, who was a democrat

ParticipantThere is no evidence that the US military struck a Venezuelan Port, and the Venezuelan government has not said anything either. They mentioned a fire that took place in a factory. This newspaper has many correspondents all over Latin America, and they have not found evidence yet, or probably the Venezuelan government is trying to avoid a military confrontation

ParticipantFrom Roosevelt to Trump: The Monroe Doctrine and US imperialism’s predatory record in Venezuela. That predatory history started in 1899 with the European powers
US interventionism in Venezuela, however, predates even the onset of large-scale oil drilling by just over a decade, beginning with the so-called Venezuela Crisis of 1902–1903.
