Majority of Germans support Merz’s militarization and back nuclear weapons for Europe.

Some bad news for you — Russia declares a ceasefire, albeit only temporary for the moment:

If he wins, that will be three EU states opposed to Von der tell liesen, Stir Krieg Stormer, and Micron.

Not to suggest I side with the Trump and Poo-tin; I don’t; I just don’t want London, Paris, Berlin and Brussels to get us all incinerated!

Bit stupid of you, isn’t it? I was asking for an economic explanation of Europe’s war hysteria, which the party hasn’t given.
European heads of state seem to be opposing their own capitalist interests: forking out billions, paying more for gas, and courting continental obliteration, frenziedly supporting a tin-pot regime which was America’s proxy.

Analysis, please! Or will it be in May’s Standard?

Thomas More – don’t call ALB stupid for expressing his view. But you are correct- it’s a mystery why Europe maintains the fiction that this is a war worth fighting for. It seems to fly in the face of common sense. Perhaps continuing the war gives profit to European arms manufacturers, I can’t think of any other reason. The capitalist class remains a mystery always – for example, why does it condone genocide in Gaza – until we look for the profit motive. I can only surmise that one section of the capitalist class (Europe?) stands to lose profit if another section (Russia?) gains.

He didn’t express an opinion. He said it was bad news for me.

Actually, there is an article in this month’s Socialist Standard that deals with this:

Cooking the Books 1 – Guns before butter, 2 – Blowing bubbles

I would have thought that the explanation is fairly straightforward. The US has decided to cut its military spending on Europe, so from now on the European states are going to have to spend their own money on this. To get their populations to accept this “guns before butter” they have come up with scare stories about Russia preparing to conquer Europe and, to bring this home to people at a personal level, have told them what to do in that event (stocking up with food and water, etc).

Whether this pro-military spending propaganda barrage will work remains to be seen.

So, keeping the Ukraine war going, although expensive, helps feed the scare, which is why they consider it worthwhile?

    Medvedev: https://tass.com/politics/1950989

Could target NATO border states, even with nuclear weapons (Medvedev):

According to this, Zelensky openly threatens attack on Russia’s May 9th?

The Russian government, the Ukrainian government, and the US government are already making secret agreements and deals to distribute the cake among them. They are just barking at each other in the meantime, the people at the bottom are getting scared

Zelensky must have a personal as well as a political problem over VE Day celebrations as his grandfather fought in the Red
Army against the German army in Ukraine and some of his relatives were killed under German rule. On the other hand, a section of the Kiev regime is descended from those Ukrainian nationalists who fought on the German side, carried out pogroms against Jews and supplied concentration guards. They won’t want to celebrate the day of their defeat.

Bringing war closer: “security guarantees” for Zelensky?
