Came across this today, something by what is called the Marxist Unity Group. This is active within the Democratic Socialist Alliance, which is currently making big waves in the USA…

It is interesting that MUG talks of adhering to a minimum-maximum programme, reviving the kind of language of the old Second International, which collapsed after the First World War. MUG will not get anywhere for the same reason that the Second International got nowhere, but at least there is an explicit reference to a post-capitalist society, which is rarely to be found among Leftist parties

“Marxist Unity Group works towards adopting a minimum-maximum program for DSA. We view both the “minimum” and “maximum” program as essential. The minimum program refers to the party’s comprehensive platform: the policies that it will immediately implement upon taking power to establish working-class political rule and place society on the path of a socialist transition out of capitalism. The maximum program refers to the results of this process: a world free of the market, borders, classes, and all other oppressive structures that exist under capitalism—in a word, communism. Centering programmatic politics will restore the sense of unity and purpose that socialists enjoyed during the Sanders campaigns. However, our program will have much more ambitious aims, and instead of belonging to a single candidate, it will be developed democratically by the entire socialist movement.”

The same old Leninist crap. In the USA, they call socialism what in Europe is known as social democracy,y and many social democrats and democratic socialists have been elected, and they have been removed. Capitalism is one global system, and these Leninists continue talking about a revolution in two stages like the old Russian Bolshevik tactic; they stayed on state, which was state capitalism

This is a Spanish article about the Bolshevik log, the same old crap too

The DSA is only a Trojan horse inside the US Democratic Party.

The only thing they are going to do is distort the concept of socialism.

Most people believe that socialism is welfare, food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, reforms established by social democrats under other names.

Capitalists have removed all the funds to reestablish them, and the US is borrowing a lot of money to finance the state apparatus. The Treasury said that they are borrowing 155 billion every month

Robbo203, re your post at page top:

What is the surprise? MUG’s program is modeled after the CPGB’s. And you’ve read the Weekly Worker for certainly more years than I have, so certainly you know that the CPGB espouses this very same ‘minimum-maximum program’.

As soon as I saw the hammer and sickle I switched off their website.

That was my reaction too. All Leninist groups are committed to socialism as classless, stateless, moneyless society (which they call communism) but only in some dim and distant future. In the meantime they concentrate on their “mimumum” programme of reforms as bait to try to attract a following.

A Short Course on the History of the Marxist Unity Group, Part Two: Partyism in Practice

This is the second part of an article on the history of the Marxist Unity Group (MUG), a faction of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). The first part covered the background and foundation of the group. This part describes its practical interventions towards transforming DSA into a Marxist party from the 2023 DSA convention to the present
