That's a bit unfair, Ozy. The fact that so many people are rejoicing at her death surely indicates some degree of trade-unionist class consciousness which we must be pleased exists.Anyway, she wasn't really born a member of the working class was she though she was a despicable social climber, even changing her religion (from methodism to anglicanism)  to get on. Wasn't she Alderman Roberts' daughter from Grantham (the Town That Died of Shame)?I hear that they are considering putting on her grave the epitaph that Byron wrote for Castlereagh's:

    Quote:
Posterity will ne'er survey a Nobler grave than this: Here lie the bones of Castlereagh: Stop, traveller, and p

We should dig up, no pun intended, as much dirt about her as possible. Stuff like her relationship with the upstanding democratic loving, christian,General Pinochet. Factual stuff though. Nothing potentially libelous.

There is a lot to dig up! Her government was similar to to todays coalition.Whereas Thatcher's government tended to concentrate its attacks  on working class organistations , in particular the trade unions, the coalition concerns itself with attacking the unemployed, sick and disabled working class which dishing out various typs of bonuses to the parasitic capitalist class. She was as you say a friend to other particularly nasty political leaders.I need not mention that within the old mining communities up where I live there will be some dancing and singing by those who remember her. They praise her in the media, why not test her popularity and send her coffin through my home town!

Dead people cannot issue libel writs and there is enough dirt on the old witch not to have to worry about libel. Why don't they privatise the funeral? Sell tickets to attend it. Those too rich or too daft can then subsidize it or it might even make a profit. Surely this would be in line with her principles? Just make sure M.P.s don't claim their ticket on expenses.

Not sure what Morrissey's politics but he makes one or two good points: "Thatcher is remembered as The Iron Lady only because she possessed completely negative traits such as persistent stubbornness and a determined refusal to listen to others."Every move she made was charged by negativity; she destroyed the British manufacturing industry, she hated the miners, she hated the arts, she hated the Irish Freedom Fighters and allowed them to die, she hated the English poor and did nothing at all to help them, she hated Greenpeace and environmental protectionists, she was the only European political leader who opposed a ban on the Ivory Trade, she had no wit and no warmth and even her own Cabinet booted her out."He said: "She gave the order to blow up The Belgrano even though it was outside of the Malvinas Exclusion Zone – and was sailing AWAY from the islands."When the young Argentinian boys aboard The Belgrano had suffered a most appalling and unjust death, Thatcher gave the thumbs up sign for the British press. Iron? No. Barbaric? Yes."She hated feminists even though it was largely due to the progression of the women's movement that the British people allowed themselves to accept that a Prime Minister could actually be female."But because of Thatcher, there will never again be another woman in power in British politics, and rather than opening that particular door for other women, she closed it."Thatcher will only be fondly remembered by sentimentalists who did not suffer under her leadership, but the majority of British working people have forgotten her already, and the people of Argentina will be celebrating her death. "As a matter of recorded fact, Thatcher was a terror without an atom of humanity," he added.

I think we can safely conclude that Morrisey is not a tory.

Morrisey is being unfair to her. According to the last letter here, she was opposed to hare coursing.I didn't buy the English papers today but even this Irish one I bought instead  had 4 pages on her. But our friends in the North (East)  will appreciate this item:http://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/uk/thatcher-was-figure-of-hate-for-many-britons-1.1353232Mind you, it was capitalism rather than Thatcher personally who was to blame for this. Her fault was to enjoy so much doing it.

Exactly Adam, the gay abandon with which she revelled in fucking workers up was, to put it mildly, obscene!By the way, I mourn her death, the horrible old bigotted fucker, should have lived until she was at least a hundred and been in mortal agony every single fucking day!As Adam said she enjoyed it to much.

I don't think EVERY action is dictated by economics. As said above:  "She gave the order to blow up The Belgrano even though it was outside of the Malvinas Exclusion Zone – and was sailing AWAY from the islands."When the young Argentinian boys aboard The Belgrano had suffered a most appalling and unjust death, Thatcher gave the thumbs up sign for the British press. Iron? No. Barbaric? Yes.Could have been handled a little differently. But certainly without the existence of capitalism and the imperitive of capitalist economics she could never have done anything like that

Does anyone know if he still received the Standard? The Durham miners were aware of our case. I stood on the platform with the union's press officer at Sunderland University (then a polytechnic) I spoke first and he replied that I had left him with very little to add! I had a good go at the record of the Labour party and he did not correct me.

Some good articlesI thought this was quite interesting and made some accurate pointshttp://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/timstanley/100211357/the-swps-fanatics-have-outdone-themselves-with-their-margaret-thatcher-is-dead-rejoice-cover/ as does thisRussell Brand: ""Barack Obama, interestingly, said in his statement that she had "broken the glass ceiling for other women". Only in the sense that all the women beneath her were blinded by falling shards. She is an icon of individualism, not of feminism." and thisBusting Thatcher Myths- There was no Economic Miracle Under Thatcher: Recessions, Credit Bubbles Bursting, Mass Unemployment, Tax Hikes for Most of us, a drop from 83% to 40% for the Superrich, like her.andWhy Would Anyone Celebrate the Death of Margaret Thatcher?
