ParticipantAn interesting article. I wonder what he would have made of today’s schools?

ParticipantI think he would be dismayed all round.

ParticipantI agree, they are probably not what he had in mind as education, more as mini factories with ‘outcomes’.

ParticipantI think he would be appalled. 2026, and the proletariat having next to no social awareness. Nationalism rampant. Fundamentalist religion rampant. Thousands of flat earthers (while socialists number only a few hundred). The vast majority worldwide rejecting evolution. Mass ignorance of history.

ParticipantCan not be called education; they are the centre of indoctrination for the future wage slaves and zombies and defenders of the capitalist system; there is no critical questioning.
In the USA, the Department of Education is governed by an expert on wrestling and boxing; she does not know the meaning of the word pedagogy, and she does not read any books. When I was young, teachers had personal libraries, and schools had a big library.
She is a millionaire who wants to run schools like a private corporation to make profits, and a curriculum to indoctrinate zombies and sheep.
They eliminated natural sciences, replaced them with witchcraft; natural history has been eliminated, real-world history has been eliminated, humanities are not part of the curriculum, evolution has been replaced by creationism, nationalism and patriotism are like mental diseases, ready to join the armed forces, and a bunch of external zombies and parents support that program.
When I was young, even catholic schools had a much better curriculum, and the directors were professional teachers; the curriculum motivated students to be critical thinkers, included natural sciences ( biology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, zoology, botany, world history, arts, philosophy, dictation, calligraphy, agriculture, and verbal examination was more important than written examination; teachers were part of our family, loved by the students
Universities had autonomy; some universities, the department of economics, had a class on political economy, and churches were not allowed inside the school campus; now they have pastors and fanatics shouting in every corner, selling mental poisons, the blind leading the blind, and they have mass on the campus. Catholic universities did not have classes on theology or apologetics.cs
Now, they hate teachers; they hate schools; they carry guns to school. The only gun that we carried was a textbook, and we had to read every day. In our time, students do not read anything; they spend all their time attached to smartphones, playing war games, and worshipping crazy movie artists. Because cinematography has been completely degenerated,
it is very hard for them to obtain class consciousness, and their parents are in the same social conditions

ParticipantA great all-round article by Sam Fluss.
——————————————–
Different to the false propaganda made by some right-wingers, anarchists and capitalists that he was a failure as a father and that he was a failure when he was a student. They do not mention that Marx was expelled from Germany and was exiled to other countries, and that most of them rejected him; finally, he was accepted in England.
