The DSM 5 criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder are as follows (diagnosis would imply that most of these characteristics be present over a significant period of time):

    • A grandiose logic of self-importance
    • A fixation with fantasies of infinite success, control, brilliance, beauty, or idyllic love
    • A belief that he or she is extraordinary and exceptional and can only be understood by, or should connect with, other extraordinary or important people or institutions
    • A desire for unwarranted admiration
    • A sense of entitlement
    • Interpersonally oppressive behavior
    • No form of empathy
    • Resentment of others or a conviction that others are resentful of him or her
    • A display of egotistical and conceited behaviors or attitudes

He is just a crook with a lot of money stolen from the sweat of the working class. He is attacking the same issues that provided his accumulation of capital. Real estate took the place of industrialization in certain areas, he is using workers from others countries, and his merchandises are  being manufactured in others countries, who have very  low salaries. He is getting popular based on the false dreams of millions of workers, the times of the post war have already passed away, to industrialize the US again  might take many years and capitalism does not operate like that, nobody can stop its world expansion, and its main purpose is to produce profits, capitalism is not a house of charity.  PS Richard Wolf has published a very good conference which explains the process of the high wages in the US and how the state was financed with large sum of surplus value in prior years, but that process is already gone too

I'm always rather wary about using medical/psychological concepts to describe political ideologies in terms of the personalities of those who subscribe to them. It is possible to deconstruct any political perspectives in this way thus eliminating any reference to the history of political philosophy at all. I'm sure comrades have had their belief in socialism deconstructed in terms of their personalities only too often?

During the times of economical crisis due to overproduction, and market competition among the capitalist because capital is one of the worst enemies of the capitalist themselves, the ruling class in different part of the world have always used narrow nationalism, and false economical paradise in order to obtain the support of the working class, the same situation took place in Germany, Italy as a few examples.Like someone used to say: Let's blame on the workers, now the blame fall on top of the peoples from the Middle east, and the Mexican, but nobody goes into  the law of operations of the capitalist society, it would be too dangerous, it will show  that capitalism is the real cause and it is a very unstable economical system, and that the real criminals are the capitalists, and they are the ones living in the back of the workers, and that the state is an institution run with surplus valueSome sectors of the US ruling class are propagating the idea that Donald Trump is a narcissist, and that he wants to become a dictator or that he is a Russian spy, or Obama is a  communists, or a Muslim, but they never go to the root of the problem, they want to turn the problem into an issue of personalities which is not the real root, workers around the world have been living for years under the dictatorship of capital, and the dictatorship of few hand full of legalized thieves, therefore, that is not a new thing, it has existed for more than 200 years. It they remove from the mouth of Donald Trump the word: Muslim, middle eastern, and Mexican and replaced it  with the word: Indians, Cherokee and Apache, we would be able to see that it is the same situation in different epoch, or different century, blaming the real cause in somebody else. If they start a war against China they are going to blame many peoples on the Chinese and the Buddhists, the old enemy were the soviets, the iron curtain, the communists, the Nazis, the fascists, and now they are the terrorists, they are winning all the GrammyThis is not new, the Mexicans were deported by millions during the great depression and more than 65% of them were US Citizens, or residents of the US and they blamed the economical crisis on them, and then, towns, real estate, agriculture was going into bankruptcy, and Roosevelt had to send an apology to the Mexican government, and they needed many of them to work in agriculture and to become fighters of the warmed forces, the same situation took place with the Japanese-American, the Indian living in reservation, is the same record being played on a different phonograph. The real root of the crisis, unemployment, lack of social benefits, de-industrialization, lacks of workers union, crimes, and drug epidemic is the capitalist mode of production, but in order to understand that peoples must stop reading comic books, and stop  listening to their own class enemies. Someone in the SPGB wrote: While human beings continue loving their national borders more than others human beings and their own son and daughters wars and national hates will always exist, we do not need to place allegiance to any nation or to any flag, we must place allegiance to others human beings

Thanks for that,  My thoughts exactly.  That said I'm going to plagarise it for the original question in Quora.

I don't think that Trump is the victim of the personality disorder, I think the world is the victim of his personality disorder.

It's possible that a psychological analysis of the millions who would vote for such a dysfunctional individual would be more productive than a psychiatric assesment of that individual. Such attempts were made by the Frankfurt school, among others, with varying levels of success. The need for and belief in authoritarian social structures together with the leaders that such an arrangement produces does indicate a level of political naivety that implies some kind of emotional infantile state. Nazism and Bolshevism cannot be explained away by a psychological investigation of Hitler and Lenin.

This is presuming that the DSM 5 is unbiased and does not come under the influence of Big Pharma.  But think of the irony here:  Trump nailed to his own petard for supporting the accumulation of capital. That's a thought.  I'll have to edit my Quora answer so it includes the irony.

In that case we should alo make a psychological imvestigation of Roosevelt and Churchill. Nazism is not Hitler, and Bolshevism is not Lenin, and without the Russian revolt Lenin would  have mever  became a popular figure. The popularity of Donald Trump is just a product of the discontent of some of the US workers, and he has used that discontent in order to promote his capitalist agenda, which is also the agenda of some sectors of the capitalist class of the US

I agree with your assesment of the Trump phenomena but I also see him in the broader context of the decadence of capitalist political culture. The reversion to 'scape goating' of elements within the US population is reminiscent of what happened in Europe after the economic crash in the 1930's. I believe there are irrational elements at play within racism and xenophobia that are accessible to psychological inquiry. Socialists are bemused by the workers' support for such demagogues and surely psychology can give us some insights into this (within a historical and political context).

The scape goating in the US is a very old phenomenon, older than the Great Depression, it started in the same moment that the so called Pilgrim and European arrived in North America. The first scape goats were the natives who were the real founders and discoverers of the Americas, therefore, in that case  we should  make a psychological investigation to the so called Christians that came to the Americas to steal lands, and kill peoples, more than 110 millions of peoples were killed based on the excuse that they were savages, uneducated, and that the land was given by god to them. The real reason for the European invaders was gold and silver, and the so called conqueror Christopher Colombo was simply a thief and a criminal, and all the others that came after him. The other scape goating were the Mexicans and in that process they created a bigger empire and a bigger territory, scape goating is an integral part of the history of the US, they were the first wet back because they crossed the river in order to invade Mexico and they  took  a large territory thru the Guadalupe-Hidalgo treaty, and now the Mexicans are illegals in that large territory, and in the original treaty it says that Mexicans were allowed to cross anytime that they wanted to do it, they opened the borders when they needed cheap laborers to work in Agriculture The US was going to be a small Republic, and their tentacles extended beyond  North America to South America and the Caribbean based on excuses, lies, and tricks, they have invaded Latin America more than 125 times based on scape goating, Grenada an island armed with Machetes, Mochas and knifes was invaded because they were a threat to the US, a country who has thousands of atomic bombs in their military warehouse , most peoples in the US do not know the real history, everything is based on fantasies, fairy tales, and historical illusions, and false heroes that served the ruling class

Most Republican Party's leaders want to replace  him by another candidate, they are looking for all kind of legal clauses, and patriotic ideas to replace him before the November general election.

Any person with certain humanist principles would never aspire to be president of the USA. It would be like applying to become a member of a club of criminal, or a member of the Cosa Nostra, or the Mafia, Barack Obama was a Law professor and now he is a war criminal, and he will be forced to spend his whole life being followed by security forces, and his house will be guarded by security forces too.The pilot that dropped the atomic bomb in Japan was never able to live in peace until he died, where ever he moved, he was followed  by protest and rejection, but he was a hero for the ruling classIt is better to be a  simple person, instead of fame, prestige and power, it is much better  to be  living  peacefully  with  our family than to live in constant fear. Like Marx wrote: The happiness of man begin where his job ends, with his family, friends, and relatives
