After seeing Twelve Years a Slave, I went to IMDB to look at the message board there.  I wasn't surprised to see the racists out getting defensive, but I was amazed at the paranoic ideology that managed to turn everything round and blame slavery on the enemy of the day: Muslims (I kid not) and the liberal moviemakers who hate western civilisation.

Anyway, to go back to our resident racist of a few months back, I found this faintly fascinating, the film makers traced the descendents of Solomon Northup, and there are a few surprises in the gallery:

Of course, these people share about 1000th of their genetic information with Northup, but still, it shows how this story still links to today.
