Chinese capitalists do not need the Panama Canal, now, the route between China and South America is shorter, and the dry ports will be connected to the Peruvian megaport. The real threat to the US capitalist class is the Chinese trade, and the commercial routes that they are creating in South and Central America and they can be displaced
The old concept of Banana Republic was applicable to Honduras and Guatemala production of bananas and when one US corporation was able to control the whole nation but that concept is not longer applicable with the world expansion of capitalism, as well, the concept of third world is not applicable any longer, it was a political term applicable during the Cold War period
