Minutes of the 31st Meeting of the Kent & Sussex Regional branch of The Socialist Party of Great Britain held on 18th May 2014The meeting started at 2.20pm and was held at the Muggleton Inn, High Street, Maidstone, KentPresent: Dave Chesham (Secretary), Marie Chesham, Rob Cox (Treasurer), Jacqueline Shodeke (until 5.00pm)Apologies for absence: Les Courtney, Hannah Dutton, Ed Mann, Glenn MorrisVisitor: Dan1. Election of ChairMotion 1. Shodeke & Cox “That D.Chesham be Chair”AGREED2. Minutes of the 30th Meeting dated 13th April 2014 were before the meetingAGREED3. Matters arising from the previous minutesi) Les CourtneyRob informed the branch that Les had written and printed his own election leaflet for distribution in his locality.It was AGREED to further defer this item as Mandy wasn't present.ii) Advertising in 'The Net'It was AGREED to defer this item to the next meeting.iii) Literature stalls and leaflet distribution to coincide with Euroelection campaignRob reported that he had held another stall, this time in the pedestrian precinct at Deal.NOTEDIt was suggested that the branch might run a campaign to encourage voter registration running up to the local and general election in 2015. It was AGREED to discuss this idea in detail at the next branch meeting in June.iv) Summer School – 20-22/6/14At least five branch members and one supporter have already booked and would be attending.v) Kent Miners' Festival – 25/8/14The Secretary reported that he was arranging for the branch to advertise in the Festival's programme and on its website.NOTED4. Discussion on Conference proceedings prior to votingThe various Conference motions were discussed in accordance with the requirements of Rule 21.5. Vacancy for EC member and TrusteeMotion 2. Shodeke & Cox “That the following comrades be asked if they would accept nomination for the EC vacancy – Steve Clayton, Carla Dee, Michael Ghebre and Frank Simkins”AGREED 4-0-0 (four members present)Motion 3. Cox & Shodeke “That D.Chesham be nominated for the post of Trustee”AGREED 3-0-1 (four members present)6. EC minutes – 4th meeting – 5/4/14                          5th meeting – 3/5/14NOTED7. New notice of business – "The Party's Image"It was AGREED to defer this item until the next meeting.8. Future propaganda activitiesa) Possible day or weekend school in 2015It was AGREED to defer this item until the next meeting.b) Further literature stallsIn view of the relative success of the stall at Tonbridge on May 5th it was AGREED to have another on Saturday, 14th June from 12 noon. Same position near the castle and overlooking the River Medway.c) Robert Tressell FestivalIt was AGREED that the Secretary make enquiries about this event.9. Any other businessIt was NOTED that the Autumn Delegate Meeting this year would be held on the weekend of October 25th/26th.Meeting adjourned at 5.15pmCollection taken: £16.00
