Since it has come up recently: socialism offers free and equal access to the products that freely associated labour of the community makes available.
The starting point is non-coercion of labour: we will only produce what we are willing to produce (and are responsible for producing what is needed to continue the existence of our community and the concrete individuals within it).
So you won’t get your own personal socialist Death Star, unless as a society we decide to make Death Stars available, and try to meet demand for Death Stars.
The produce in the common store will be produced and made available to all, without rationing or ‘giving’ controlled by store holders. The administrators of the store and the consumers will confront each other not as holders of commodities or bureaucratic offices, but free individuals working to promote each other’s freedom and self-development.
Hoarding and avaricious grasping would be rendered unnecessary by mutually guaranteeing each person supply of the means of living.
