No doubt. That's why we still have capitalism. But why the strawman. No members are doing that

I think it is about striking a balance between confidently putting our case and acknowledging that big ideas can overlap and it is not scientific to think one and only one group can arrive at the only true conclusionsI sometimes quote the Wikipedia entry on Antonio Labriola on here

    Quote:
Labriola's approach to Marxist theory was more open-ended than the orthodoxy of theorists such as Karl Kautsky. He saw Marxism not as a final, self-sufficient schematisation of history, but rather as a collection of pointers to the understanding of human affairs.  These pointers needed to be somewhat imprecise if Marxism was to take into account the complicated social processes and variety of forces at work in history. Marxism was to be understood as a "critical theory", in the sense that it sees no truths as everlasting, and was ready to drop its own ideas if experience should so dictate.

A fellow Republican candidate has used argument ad hitlerum in his campaign attack ad on Trumphttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCQhBYEMRQIIs it appropriate? Certainly I have seen reduction ad hitlerum used inappropriately here on this forum.

    The specific quote here

    Quote:
Politics is a Maslowian hierarchy – the base is security, the middle is delivery (or competence) and at the top is aspiration – the kind of country and society they want to live. If you cannot convince on security – economic, homeland, national, environmental – then you aren’t heard on public services. If you are not trusted on delivery of health and education then it does not matter what your vision of the good society is – however wonderful. Too often the left starts with collective aspiration and all the great things we can do, forgetting the scaffolding. Map where Labour is and where the Tories are. Be honest – whole sight, or all the rest is desolation. And then plan how to wrest topics from the Tories one by one, and own and occupy them for Labour. A fight over hospital deficits is about competence not about privatisation – the former disconfirms and damages the overall Tory brand, the latter just makes Labour feel good. Cuts to tax credits and job losses in steel are about insecurity domestically and globally. Always attach the stories, messages and actions of the day

All sounded very Walfordian to me.

    one comment says

    Quote:
[Socialist organisations] Design leaflets like most people design essays. If you've ever been to a protest you've undoubtedly been handed a double-sided sheet of A4 paper with 5,000 word political essay (and if you're lucky a picture of a fist) that looks like it's been Xeroxed at the office during somebody's lunch hour. Don't do that. When you hand somebody a leaflet you probably have less than 3 seconds to get their attention. After that they're either going to throw it away or stuff it in their pocket, probably never to read it again. Make sure your leaflets are eye-catching and don't contain too much text. Use large, colourful images and bullet points where possible. Don't be afraid to spend money on professional (colour) printing, it pays off.

I think you are discriminating against same sex marriages more than you would for heterosexual marriages. If marriage is a property society construct why not recognise as meaningully as for biologically sterile pairs? This seems to be the pertinent work on the matterhttps://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1884/origin-family/ch02d.htm

Wasn't Assad the enemy we were supposed to be bombing a couple of years ago? It must be hard for the ruling class to portay us as the goodies and one side as the baddies if they are changing the baddies too much.

So what is meaningful marriage and what function does it serve that other types of marriage do not?

Other than Hansard was this Corbyn contribution reported anywhere because the angle of his bow on Remembrance Sunday was widely and prominently reported.

Two weeks ago, they could have timed the defence spending announcement to coincide with Remembrance Sunday. 'We will not forget …' or regret or understand apparently.

Should for the sake of argument party members be able to directly vote to deselect moderators including where there are no volunteers to moderate the forum?

Thanks for this. We are losing no matter how much certain Trot groups insist there is a lot of anger out there and the government is (always) weak. The answer to the activist is political action, the answer to the already political group is to critically evaluate how effective all their tactics are.
