Just what is it about Russel Brand what gets my goat?I could just as easily ask,What is it about the misogynist pal of rape promoters, of fascists and conspiracist mongers that you like?

vin, perhaps it's his close collaboration with those who think that that tiny minority are Jews or lizards, or Jew lizards.

I am bored with the discussion over Brand, here, just as elsewhere, no criticism of his conduct, his collaborators, or his 'ideas' ( it's difficult to know what these actually are, as opposed to those of his ghost writer Johan Hari, or the fascist who filmed his Trews, or the conspiracy nuts who he has spent so much time with) is ever actually acknowledged by his fans, who no matter how much they deny that they think he's some sort of perfect hero, clearly consider him to be immaculate.on the Podemos thread a Trotskyist is quoted dismissing the critics who warn of the Spanish party's rapid embrace of the 'possible' Quote:The fact that Podemos has reached millions of Spaniards while self-declared vanguard formations largely speak to those already “in the know” about Lenin and the Russian questions should tell us that we are on the brink of a new period in the class struggle, one in which the socialist movement will be rebuilt on 21st century realities. It is about time.isnt this exactly the same as what is being claimed about Brand?he is not a socialist, there is nothing in either his statements nor his writing to show he either wants nor understands what socialism is.i spent 30 years in the Trotskyist party's before I became a socialist, believe me, people talked revolution all the bloody time, what they meant by that was not we do. Brand talks about revolution, it is not our revolution.

I remember when my "strong branch committee" decided to send to conference a member who wasn't the one preferred by the district:. 2 expulsions and a entire branch suspended. Yay, leninist democracy.

As he had Johan Hari ghostwrite it for him, I wouldn't be surprised if he claimed direct consultancy from yahweh.

I understood that the leading lights of the suffrage movement were members of, or close to, the ILP.of course the ILP wasn't shy of seeking liberal support in parliament, so perhaps Fry is making a socialist critique of the reformists?

On urban 75 I posted a link to my blog about Russell Brand, which someone commented was "clearly written by a squeebygeebee". Made me feel quite proud.

I am less impressed with russel brand, I don't think he is insincere, just that the 'revolution' he aspires to isnt a working class one, a socialist one. I think Brand promotes the causes which he chooses, ones that coincidently promote his own Brand (sic).  http://redstarcommando.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/we-dont-need-another-hero-or-why.html

London black revolutionaries called the demo last week outside the U.S. embassy over the michael brown murder in Ferguson.there is quite a bit of Twitter tattle about this. Apparently, the SWP demanded to have speakers at the protest through their latest front group 'stand up to racism' when the LBr refused the SWPs weyman Bennett threatened to 'go to war' and to 'demolish' them if they continued to involve themselves in anti racist activity without 'acknowledging the established leadership'.the SWP has recently launched a new unity drive.

Just had a sharp debate with an old friend who posted up the report on the radical nationalists, they don't like anyone reminding them that socialism is anti nationalist.then again yesterday spent the evening being insulted for criticising a leftist posting pro Islamic statements.

The socialist standard is propaganda, nobody would deny that, but it isn't journalism, it is an activist publication produced by socialists for the propagation of socialism. No matter what the individual intentions of the journalist as a worker s/he has to sell their labour power to the capitalist, and therefore cannot break their masters line.

a reference to a situation becoming rracialized; ie being divided along racial lines. Would make some sense. ( though I would be uncomfortable with it), but that makes no sense whatsoever.

Anyone who thinks that there is a qualitative difference between Fox News and the guardian, or RT or Al Jazeera etc. is fooling themselves, all journalism under capitalism is propaganda for capitalism; either reformed and cuddly, or brutal and naked.

The lesson I personally take from this is that if I am ever in the Medway, to check out the castle at Rochester.
