I can only comment on the reference to Kerala and indeed the first thing a visitor will notice is the amount of red flags and Che posters. Every day seems like May Day…Actually, that is not far off the the mark, nearly everyday there was some sort of strike or demonstration taking place. The local population are very highly active but just not in a revolutionary manner.
Deeper understanding of socialism is missing. Where i lived, the politics was about the control of the booze in a "prohibition" state. The CPI(M) candidate, who i knew of, wouldn't have known his Marx from his arse.
I expected Marxist literature to be easily available but nothing of worthwhile was being sold at the CPI(M) bookshop.
