ParticipantLondon Black Revolutionaries organised a demo recently
Here is an excerpt of an interview with Vice
Quote:So who are the London Black Revolutionaries?
We’re a closed black and Asian revolutionary socialist group. It has anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-homophobic and anti-sexist principles right at the centre of it. We’re formed in London and now operate in different localities – I won’t say which ones. We’re all young, black and very political. We’re pretty disgruntled with the way other organisations lack any militancy, to the point of turning political organisation into rhetoric or lifestyle. A lot of these organisations, while they are working class, they have middle-class aspirations and anxieties, which cause them to lack any real connection with ordinary working-class people. What kind of structure do you work with?
We’re democratic. We’re organised in the form of local chapters. At the moment we have three. It’s growing quickly and we might soon have a couple of chapters in the north, which would bring into question the name “London Black Revolutionaries”.and from the Guardian a more dubious basis for the group
Quote:Asked why LBR made a point of calling itself a black and Asian organisation, the spokesman said the group "values its political allies", but has to start from "the basis of the makeup of our group. We can't aim to speak for people outside of our race or social experience."November 28, 2014 at 2:22 pm #106196ALB
KeymasterLooks as if this thread could be combined with the one on diversity under General Discussion. These people could borrow from the apartheid era in South Africa for a definition of "non-white", though in their case to exclude "whites".

ParticipantExcept this is positive discrimination and the topic on diversity is negative discrimination

KeymasterMaybe, but either way it divides the working class and sets one section against another.

ParticipantActually I'm not even sure if I am using those terms correctly but yes it is a division that is not a class division.

KeymasterYes, there are plenty of "Asian" capitalists (quite a few figure in the Sunday Times Rich List) and African kleptocrats. It's true, though, that people from the West Indies seem to be under-represented in the higher ranks of the capitalist class.

ParticipantLondon black revolutionaries called the demo last week outside the U.S. embassy over the michael brown murder in Ferguson.there is quite a bit of Twitter tattle about this. Apparently, the SWP demanded to have speakers at the protest through their latest front group 'stand up to racism' when the LBr refused the SWPs weyman Bennett threatened to 'go to war' and to 'demolish' them if they continued to involve themselves in anti racist activity without 'acknowledging the established leadership'.the SWP has recently launched a new unity drive.
