Violence in Leicester between Hindu and Muslim communities began after a group of Hindu men marched through the streets of the city shouting “jai shri Ram”, a Hindu greeting that has become a clarion call for Hindutva mobs and perpetrators of anti-Muslim violence in India.
Not too sure about that. There have notoriously been rival Sikh and Muslim gangs in Slough.

I’m uncertain what is happening, hence the question mark.
The similarity with the Rangers-Celtic bigotry is that it appears to have begun with sports rivalry, in this case cricket.
I expect that partisan tit-for-tat reporting may confuse getting an understanding of what is happening.

There has recently been rising tensions and some small-scale violence in the Smethwick area north of Birmingham.
While there is no doubt a sectarian aspect to this it cannot be a coincidence that these eruptions between Hindu and Muslim youths occur in very deprived neighbourhoods.
Infamously, Enoch Powell was the MP in Smethwick when he was in his heyday.
