Actually the UK is rolling out the German/US vaccine first, rather than its own Oxford vaccine.
Why are there so many vaccines? With teams worldwide working flat out to develop vaccines, using four separate approaches, it would be astonishing if there was only one viable result. There could well be dozens.
ISTR someone writing that faced with a crisis, throwing everything at multiple possible approaches is the sensible response, one of them might work, and you haven’t got time to try and pick winners at the start.
You can’t deny that capitalist medicine has left many in a worse state than death.
Pfizer chairman Albert Bourla was asked “Even though I’ve had the protection, am I still able to transmit it to other people?”
His answer, “I think this is something that needs to be examined. We are not certain about that right now with what we know.”
“Capitalist medicine”? What is that? I thought there was just medical knowledge. If there is some other, “non-capitalist” medicine, what is it?
I have heard about capitalist and communist cars and capitalist computer from the right wingers and that communists are using capitalist internet
LBird will have the answer to “capitalist medicine”…it will be different from Marx’s idealist materialism type medicine because the ideology of the science behind it is capitalist. 😈
By capitalist medicine I mean medicine controlled by the profit system, including unnecessary casualties and deaths as a direct result of it. Have you forgotten Thalidomide, and numerous other cases?
I am not anti-vaccination, and will likely have the vaccine offered, but skepticism and caution are healthy.

It is an EU-wide approval process via the European Medicines Agency (EMA), not individual nations and the application for approval is in the pipeline.
Germany’s health minister Jens Spahn explained that the EU law in question had a built-in exception clause allowing member states to issue their own approvals. Germany, too, could have taken that approach, said Spahn. Instead, it chose to stick with EU partners and wait for bloc-wide approval.

So, only the misuse of medical knowledge under capitalism in the pursuit of profit. Fair enough and a relief too. I thought that we might have another crank on our hands who might want assessing and approving vaccines to be the subject of a popular vote.

Problem is, this is not an argument for socialism but for more state regulation in capitalism. Besides which, the naïve inference would be that there would never be medical or industrial accidents in socialism, because socialists never make mistakes.
