Interesting development. It was in their manifesto, but lots of things are in capitalist parties manifestoes. It doesn’t usually mean diddly squat.
Does a failing Labour Government honestly think this will help them at the next election? I can’t see it myself.
The Greens will benefit from this.
It’s just politicians taking action for votes. What could a 16-year-old possibly understand? Capitalists want nothing more than a dumbed-down population – people who will buy whatever they’re told, work however they’re directed, and vote for whoever they’re manipulated to choose.

Only if a lot of 16 & 17 year-olds turn-out to vote, which I can’t see happening. Has giving 18-20 year-olds the vote had a significant impact on election results? I doubt it.
Giving 16 & 17 year-olds the vote is something we certainly shouldn’t be against, but shouldn’t exactly campaign for, either. After all, more than enough working people (& their dependents) have the vote – in order to overthrow capitalism.
Most 16-17-18 years old are supporters of capitalism, and they are manipulated by the ruling class and by bourgoise nationalism, and some become followers of certain so called socialist or leftwing organizations which are like a social club. Age is not very important, it is the political education and the class consciousness that is important.
