The SPGB have again booked a substantial stall in the indoor marquee area at the Durham Miners’ Gala. Several party members from across the country have agreed to come along to the Gala to help with our stall and the general distribution of socialist material, etc. We have a limited amount of accommodation available on a first come first served basis which will be available on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th. Comrades from North East Branch and Yorkshire Branch are coordinating our presence at the event, please feel free too contact them if you are intending to attend.

The Gala (pronounced Gayla not Garla) is a really impressive event with lots of stall, speeches, magnificent banners, etc. Up to 200,000 people gather for the event and even on a rainy day it is well worth attending, with lots of fringe events on the Friday night and the Saturday night.

Transport links to the event is pretty good, Durham Station is on the East Coast mainline and the main event is in walking distance of the Station, the A1 is closely linked to the City of Durham, and if you are even more adventurous Newcastle Airport is 15 mins by Metro to Newcastle Central Station and trains run to Durham every 20 mins or so and take 12 minutes. Durham City is also worth visiting with the Castle, Cathedral, etc.

Here is a link to the info site of the Friends of Durham Gala with further information.
