But recently the trade union <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unison.org.uk\/news\/press-release\/2025\/06\/ambulance-999-call-handlers-quitting-amid-burnout-and-pressure\/\" target=\"_blank\">Unison described the problems met by a specific group of workers<\/a>, those who deal with 999 calls that involve a medical emergency. It is important and rewarding work, but \u2026<\/p>\n<p>They frequently have to take life-changing decisions, sometimes working a 12-hour stretch with limited breaks. One worker had to take time off after dealing with four suicide calls in a single shift.
