Why can&#8217;t the world&#8217;s richest country provide enough food for its own people?<\/p>\n<p>The answer of course is that it can, and does, and then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/grocery-store-shopper-makes-appalling-110000355.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">throws it away<\/a>. Why? Because poor people do not constitute &#8216;effective demand&#8217;, ie, they don&#8217;t have the money to buy it.
