On Monday 17 October Jeremy Hunt admitted something we’ve been saying forever, that \u2018No government can control markets\u2019 (bbc.in\/3yMdtml<\/a>).<\/p>\n

He went on to say \u2018\u2026but every government can give certainty about the sustainability of public finances\u2019. But markets determine whether government can administer these state functions. Those markets are driven by the profit motive. When Hunt talks about restoring confidence, he means capitalists’ confidence, not yours.<\/p>\n

Remember this next time politicians promise to manage the profit system. They won\u2019t. They\u2019re liars or they\u2019re deluded.
