Is everything going to get better?<\/h3>October 28, 2026<\/small>

‘Everything is going to get better now’, were the words of someone celebrating on the streets of Serbia after that country’s election results<\/a> were announced this week (). The populist Vu\u010di\u0107 government was being replaced by the opposition ‘Student List’, a party with \u2019ordinary people\u2019 as candidates, including doctors, actors, academics and sports personalities.<\/p>\n

We can’t doubt their sincerity, but we also know that, once they find themselves having to manage the host of competing interests intrinsic to capitalism, their good intentions will run into the same roadblock as all parties that try to govern that system.<\/p>\n

And so it will continue – not just in Serbia but world-wide \u2013 until we collectively bring in a new society of voluntary production for need, moneyless, stateless and leaderless – the society we call socialism. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Poverty deepens<\/h3>October 21, 2026<\/small>

According to a report <\/a>from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, more than 1 person in 5 in the UK was living in poverty in 2023\/4, which is just over 14 million people. London may be seen as a comparatively well-off city, but it had the highest level of poverty, at just over a quarter.<\/p>\n

Of the 14 million, nearly half were in \u2018very deep poverty\u2019, with income far below the standard poverty line. Since 2017, the numbers experiencing destitution have more than doubled, and nearly three million struggle to access enough nutritious food.<\/p>\n

This is the extent of poverty in a supposedly \u2018developed\u2019 country, and it shows that capitalism cannot meet the needs of all. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Misconceptions galore<\/h3>October 14, 2026<\/small>

There have never been more misconceptions than there are today about what socialism is and who supposedly stands for it. To name but a few \u2013 the left-wing of the Labour Party, China, Cuba, North Korea, Corbyn\/Sultana\u2019s Your Party, the Greens led by Polanski, the small left-wing groups with \u2018socialist\u2019 in their names, Mamdami the mayor of New York, and so on and so forth.<\/p>\n

One of the tasks of the Socialist Party of Great Britain is to shake these mistaken ideas from people\u2019s minds and place in front of them the vision of a moneyless, wageless society of common ownership, cooperative endeavour and free access to all goods and services which is what socialism started off as and still is.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Pivotal moment for Burnham?<\/h3>October 8, 2026<\/small>

Westminster watchers were glued to the Holborn and St Pancras by-election, and none more so than new Prime Minister Andy Burnham, after a Conference speech laying out his ‘vision’ of undoing 40 years of Thatcherite privatisation and ‘wrong turns’.<\/p>\n

Will he call a snap general election to secure a popular mandate for this vision? The Tories are nowhere, the far-right divided and mired in scandal, and the Greens have arguably damaged their prospects by passing a resolution that Zionism is racist.<\/p>\n

Thrilling stuff, if you like domestic soap operas. But capitalism will continue regardless, just as socialists continue working for its abolition. Because only then will anything really change.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

The punishment of Christa Pike<\/h3>October 3, 2026<\/small>

A dark abyss of cruelty lies behind capitalism’s glitzy facade. Christa Pike spent 31 years on Death Row for murder while lawyers launched appeal after appeal. The trial jury were never told about Pike’s hideous childhood<\/a>: ‘Pike was physically and sexually abused by several of her mother’s husbands and boyfriends, and raped several times, once when she was 11 and again aged 17. Later, it was discovered that she was repeatedly raped as a toddler by her grandmother’s boyfriend.’<\/p>\n

Unmoved, Tennessee’s governor, and the Supreme Court, refused to stop the execution. But the lethal injections failed, leaving Pike with possible brain damage. Her endless punishment is just one story in a trail of broken lives left by a world obsessed with money, power and bloody revenge. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\tNext<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
