{"id":228658,"date":"2022-04-10T12:10:59","date_gmt":"2022-04-10T12:10:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldsocialism.org\/spgb\/?page_id=228658"},"modified":"2022-04-10T12:10:59","modified_gmt":"2022-04-10T12:10:59","slug":"ip4","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.worldsocialism.org\/spgb\/ip4\/","title":{"rendered":"IP4"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr>\n<p>First, we need to bear in mind that the world\u2019s capitalists don\u2019t form a united bloc. <\/p>\n<p>They all compete with each other to grab a greater share of the profits that we create. <\/p>\n<p>The usual way to do this is to introduce new machines\/methods to create more stuff faster, and with fewer workers. <\/p>\n<p>And this goes on all the time in the economy \u2013 for the capitalist who doesn\u2019t want to be squashed by the competition (and that\u2019s all of them), it\u2019s a never-ending cycle of re-investment in ever more massive production systems.<\/p>\n<p>Now, increased productivity ought to be a good thing, but under capitalism it inevitably results in uncoordinated expansion of production and economic instability \u2013 slump\/recession\/depression, call it what you will, and of course this affects us, the workers, most. <\/p>\n<p>This results in a giant built-in mismatch between how we could live and how we do live. <\/p>\n<p>At the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldsocialism.org\/spgb\/ip5\/\">it throws lots of other problems our way \u2b9e<\/a><\/p>\n<hr>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First, we need to bear in mind that the world\u2019s capitalists don\u2019t form a united bloc.
