    The Final Agenda for the 116th Annual Conference of
    The Socialist Party of Great Britain

    Saturday April 27th 2019 10.30 to 5.30pm
    Sunday April 28th 2019 10.30 to 5.30pm

    Items and Order of Business

    A Election of the Chair, the Deputy Chair and Tellers.

    B Permission of Branches with late forms ‘C’ to sit.

    C Fraternal Greetings from members, branches, companion parties.

    D Arrangement by delegates of the order for taking the items of business.

    E The 2018 EC and Party Officers’ Report to Conference 2019.

    F Motions for resolution.

    G Items for discussion.

    H Any other business.

    Please note: Indicative votes of delegates at Conference will be recorded for all instructed resolutions and amendments. (Conference 2013 resolution)

    The suggested order of taking the items:

    4. Item for discussion: Lancaster Branch
    “What would we do if a large number of people joined the Party from an overseas country which does not allow basic democratic rights?”

    5. Campaigns / Summer School report

    6. Motion: Kent & Sussex Branch
    “The Party should institute the following Program for members to engage in:To engage with Student Unions; To connect with other non-reformist groups; To produce a Party newsletter; To engage with events on the ground; To emphasize Direct Democracy in projecting our message.”

    7. Amendment: West London Branch
    “Delete “To connect with other non-reformist groups”.”

    8. Motion: Lancaster Branch
    “This Conference is of the view that the Party should take positive steps to contact political fellow-travellers (e.g. anarchists, libertarian socialists etc.) and invite their participation in friendly forums, combined talks, day-schools and social events.”

    9. Amendment: Manchester Branch
    “Insert “so-called” before “political”. Delete all after “participation in” and replace with “debates”.

    10. Motion: Manchester Branch
    “That the trade-union style banner created in 2013 be displayed in head office ground floor front window.”

    11. Amendment: Kent & Sussex Branch
    “Insert before the word “That”, the words “The EC consider”.

    “The political implications of Brexit.”

    15. Motion: West London Branch
    “This Conference rejects the definition of capitalism as “male-dominated class society” and the view that “capitalism and patriarchy are aspects of the same thing”. Capitalism is based on the subordination of the working class to the capitalist class, which is not the same thing as the subordination of women to men. Conference further notes that the more advanced capitalism is the less the discrimination against women.”

    This Conference affirms that capitalism is not only a class-divided societybut is also patriarchal.”

    17. Amendment: Kent & Sussex Branch
    “Insert the word “the” after “not”; Delete the word “a”; replace the word “but” with “that”; delete the word “also”. So as to read: “This Conference affirms that capitalism is not the only class-divided society that is patriarchal.”

    18. Motion: Lancaster Branch
    This Conference reaffirms that the abolition of class oppression must of necessity entail the abolition of gender oppression.”

    “This Conference repudiates the view that capitalism will itself abolish the oppression of women.”

    “This Conference is of the view that a person can be a socialist as well as a feminist.”

    “That “of equal length” be inserted after the word “statement”.

    25. Addendum to Rule 12: Lancaster Branch
    “That the following should be added at the end: “An additional eleventh seat will be available for any branch-nominated member who wants to get some EC experience. The number needed for a quorum will be the same should 10 or 11 members be sitting. The guest will have the right to participate and vote, like other EC members. the branch secretary will inform the General Secretary of the person’s intent to sit at least a week prior to the month’s EC meeting. The place will be allocated by the General Secretary on a first-come-first-served basis. Priority will be given to a person who has not sat previously to ensure that access to the role is fair”.”

    “This Conference considers that issues affecting women are such a prominent part of life for 50% of the population that they warrant a dedicated column in the Socialist Standard, if writers can be found for it.”

    “That the party join Amazon Advantage and supply at minimum a dozen copies of each of the party pamphlets and party books published since 2017.”

    “This Conference instructs the EC to establish an ad-hoc committee to look into ways of encouraging more female membership, to report to Conference 2020.”
