ParticipantYes and you need to take away your social blinkers. The house of frauds stand for privilige sat on their backsides on leather sofas when the hard working miners lived in tiny colliery house slums. When they where crippled at work and could no longer graft they where thrown out of these houses with their children so dont you dare try and tell me that shithole place is full of decent human beings.

ParticipantWell said Vince, I know from personal exp My grand father was crippled down blackhall colliery, he was power loading on the face when the roof came down on him he was badly crippled and because he could not work any more. yes and good old capitalism threw him out of the colliery house with my father and his sisters all little children. And people ask Me why do i want to get rid of this rotten system?? which has the house of lords supping wine and people in this nation now who still struggle to exist.

ParticipantVince On second thoughts it would be a waste of good soup. i would rather throw a bucket of Pit Pony piss over the parasites in the house of frauds.

ParticipantBob your cousin in the house of frauds may well be a decent chap maybe even a wonderful human bean hp of course. Who can blame him £300 a day expenses with a subsidised bar and restaurant. It does not change the fact that the house of lords is one more example of this rotten stinking system.

InactiveAny advance on plans for that Day School – anyone? Well over a month has elapsed since a post appeared on this thread entirely devoid of inanities.

Participantgnome wrote:Any advance on plans for that Day School – anyone? Well over a month has elapsed since a post appeared on this thread entirely devoid of inanities.Hi Gnome Things are progressing nicely. we are beginning to bring things together, we have three speakers who are likely to speak, I'm awaiting final confirmation before starting to advertise, etc. The topic for the day is likely to be "what happens when Momentum lose Momentum", but again this needs to be confirmed and I am visiting the Miners' Institute on Tuseday, with a view to confirming the room, etc. I hope to confirm this all with the active members and sympathisers in the North East before we start publicising the event. However I am a little surprised that you consider the following comment from Major McFarter to be inane:"Well said Vince, I know from personal exp My grand father was crippled down blackhall colliery, he was power loading on the face when the roof came down on him he was badly crippled and because he could not work any more. yes and good old capitalism threw him out of the colliery house with my father and his sisters all little children. And people ask Me why do i want to get rid of this rotten system?? which has the house of lords supping wine and people in this nation now who still struggle to exist."I lost a father to industrial disease, one of my Grandfathers died an agonising death due to Silicosis and Asbestosis, my uncle Lawrence died of a work related cancer and two of my great grandfathers died down the pit, I can't for one moment think why you would consider reference to the death toll of industrial capitalism inane. Humour in the North East tends to have a gallows ring to it for a reason.YFSTim

ParticipantThings might be progressing nicely, but I think a call should be going out to the membership, to see just who might be interested. Could be a tad embarrassing if the three speakers turned up and only two N.E. branch members.

Publicity for this kind of event needs to be in the public domain months before it's due to occur even if all the finer details are not yet known or confirmed. The venue, date and title at the very least need to appear in the April Socialist Standard which means that this information has to be submitted to the SSPC by the middle of March at the latest.

ParticipantThe Newcastle Day school on the 5th May has now been arranged as follows: “Q. Does {Momentum} + {Force} = {Power}?” “Losing Momentum: must the left fail again?” In this talk, the history of attempts – both successful? and otherwise – to reform capitalism are discussed to try and gain an understanding of how Jeremy Corbyn and Momentum might fare if they gain power.“Capitalism, Post-Capitalism and Socialism” This talk tries to understand the social system that Momentum are seeking to challenge, looks ahead to some of the alternatives to capitalism that are proposed and discusses the pros and cons of each. The speakers are Brian Gardner and Cliff SlapperVenueThe North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical EngineersNeville HallWestgate RoadNewcastle upon TyneTyne and WearNE1 1SEDoors open at 2,30. 1st speaker 3.00pm. close at 6.30pm. We are also hoping to get a speaker from Momentum to put their side of the debate, more news on this when we have it.The venue is literally 1 minutes walk from Newastle Central Station and a bar has been arranged, the support of comrades and sympathisers outside of the area would be gratefully received as we try to kick start the Socialist Party in the North east.

I think my sister and a comrade may also attend. The may day rally at exhibition park newcastle should be on the 5th of may not far from westgate road a few hundred various lefties anarchists trade unions etc turn up, may be a good idea to leaflet/ poster the place. maybe even put up a table, try and persuade some of them to turn up at the miners hall. you never know jeremy might just turn up why not invite him? The first dozen through the door can grab a bottle of newcastle broon ale.Lets hope we are trampled in the rush. There must stll be a good few members and lapsed ex members in the n/e area lets hope the ones who are stll breathing make the effort to turn up. If anybody has their address lets make contact with them as some of them may not go on this forum and may have lost touch. this meeting may just fire up and motivate the couch spuds. I would also like to thank Brian and Clifford for making the effort to travel up and speak at this meeting.

ParticipantReport on Newcastle Day Schoolthere were 8 attendees at the day school, four party members and four visitors, one of whom was a very friendly visitor from the CWO, who told us that their may day meeting had been postponed to the following week as they didn't want to clash with us.Two comrades handed out leaflets and did some selling before the meeting at Grey's Monument in Newcastle City Centre where the May Day rally gathered. The usual collection of trades uniionists, Trotskyists, etc, were there, including the very strange people from the RCG (Fight imperialism, fight racism) who seem to think that the British working class have been beneftiting from the expoitation of the third world since before the 1st World War (So presumably my old Da who was brought up in a three room slum in Byker with a father who was dying of an industrial disease and an outside netty, was living high on the hog!)The talks for the day school were shortened due to the small number of people at the event, however there was a very lively discussion afterwards and literature sales of about £12.50We were told that there had been a few other non members who had intended to come to the meeting, but that the allure of a scorching hot day and a beer tent appears to have put paid to that.Although not as well attended as had been hoped for, the two members of NE Branch that turned up have agreed that it is a basis to look at future activity in the North East.
