What we do

The Socialist Party of Canada provides educational materials and forums to explain capitalism and socialism, and works to promote working class understanding of socialism.

Although primarily active in Canada, the Party sends information to people all around the world.

Historical Overview

The first Socialist Party of Canada

The first Socialist Party of Canada was founded in 1905 and although sometimes unsound in its policies, was the home of some sound socialists.

The Socialist Party of Canada

Several members of the old party went on to found the present Socialist Party of Canada, on a sound theoretical basis, in June 1931, adopting the following Object:

The establishment of a system of society based upon the common ownership and democratic control of the means and instruments for producing and distributing wealth by and in the interest of society as a whole.

The Socialist Party of Canada is a Companion Party in an international organization of socialist parties, the World Socialist Movement, the oldest founded in 1904 in Great Britain.
