ONE
HUNDRED YEARS FOR SOCIALISM
Saturday 8th May 1pm to 6pm 1pm to 1.15pm: Introduction and tea and coffee 1.15 to 2.45pm: The Changing Face of Capitalism The last century has
seen many changes in capitalism. We now live in a world dominated by
gigantic corporations and conglomerates. Dick Donnelly (Glasgow Branch)
considers
if these changes have fundamentally altered the nature of the system
and what are the likely consequences for world socialism.
2.45 to 3.00pm :Tea and coffee break3.00 to 4.30pm :The March of
Technology
The last century saw an unprecedented
increase in the productivity of human labour. There have been
phenomenal developments, undreamed of in 1904. World air travel, radio,
TV, the Internet and the dominance of the motor car are just some of
the changes. Brian Gardner (Edinburgh
Branch) asks how does all this affect the prospects for a
socialist revolution.
4.30 to 6.00pm: The Future and
the
Socialist Movement
We live in a rapidly changing world,
one that has seen major changes. The world-wide demise of Leninist
ideas has left a different political climate. Paul Bennett (Manchester Branch) asks
how do socialists cope with the notions of anti-globalisation and
single-issue politics? In a world where war and world starvation are
the norm how can a human being cope? There are a lot of ideas here – we
want to hear your ideas.
