damage to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC) was associated with religious fundamentalism. Further tests revealed that this increase in religious fundamentalism was caused by a reduction in cognitive flexibility and openness resulting from the prefrontal cortex impairment.
This is very poor stuff compared to Marx's "cry of the oppressed…opium of the people" etc. It takes from a sample of veterans already trained to follow orders in armed forces. I can think of a few atheist fundamentalists also.

This is a sidenote but I've read that the term "atheist fundamentalism" doesn't make sense because atheism is just a lack of belief in a higher deity. There are no positive intrinsic beliefes in atheismPerhaps "anti-religious extremist" would be better

Spot on.Careless of me. I stand corrected. :-)Matt
Pseudo-science. Religion was created by men based on materialistic needs. Atheism is older than theism. Neurological damages produce mental and physical disorders
