Hedges on Identity Politics

Shame he quotes David North of the SEP rather than ourselves (which is part of our problem) but i found this essay quite interesting.

Probably it would be better to define what the Left is.  Is the left a revolutionary concept and movement?  In the USA anything can be called a leftist or a communist including the Democratic Party and Barrack Obama. Leftism is synonymous of reformism, therefore, it is not a revolutionary concept, and the Democratic party is one of the political wings of the US ruling class, and Barrack Obama is one of the servants of the US capitalist class. The US left is not the only one that it is bankrupt. it is an epidemic that has been spread around the world. Sin

There's some good stuff there especially fom the other person Hedges interiewed. For instance:

Quote:
Instead of focusing on the plight of all of the oppressed, oppressed groups began to seek representation for their own members within capitalist structures.
Quote:
“The left became a kind of grab bag of discrete, siloed identity movements,” Derber said. “This is very connected to moral purity. You’re concerned about your advancement within the existing system. You’re competing against others within the existing system. Everyone else has privilege. You’re just concerned about getting your fair share.”
Exactly and why socialists can't support it, in fact must oppose it.

And I learnt a new word "siloed" (click on it in the quote to see what it means). Perhaps if we introduce it to this side of the Atlantic we'll get the interviews Alan says we're missing out on. Or is it just managementspeak?

Management bullshit. It is a Spanish word ( big containers )  applied to the business world. There are too many new words emerging in this society based on false ideas and false conceptions. They are creating too many fancy words in order to explain the instability of the capitalist society instead of going to the root of the problem, they are trying to go around the same problem, and a bunch of zombies believe what they are saying
