I automatically thought RobinC would appreciate this link.

“Giving freely, without thought of recompense, is the way of nature, and has worked magnificently since the beginning of life on our planet. The concept of exchange, however, is a relatively recent development, and operates on principles of inequality, which it fosters. Exchange is an accretion on the gift-giving aspect of nature; it is not an improvement of it. Money is the most recent version of exchange. It is an imaginary, debt-based, scarcity-based, shame-based system that violates natural law and concentrates wealth among a small few at the top. It is rigged — a Ponzi scheme.

Giftivism is the empowering solution to money, and is based on the abundance of the natural world. It works well because it makes use of the tendency of humans to give to one another without expecting anything in return. It is the system we are transitioning to as we become a money-less society.

Giftivism is not to be confused with barter. Although barter is by nature fundamentally preferable to money, it still involves the idea that if I give you something, then I expect something in return.

Examples of giftivism are manifold, and include free shops and free restaurants around the globe — such as three free restaurants in the Denver Metro area that serve fresh, local food. Cafe 180, for instance.”
